Discovering God
in Youth Church

As Religious Scientists we know that God is everywhere present and that truth is abundantly evident in Youth Church. Everywhere I look I see the faces of God. The children simply know and if you listen, really listen, to what they have to say you will hear the voice of God too.

How do I know this? Because I am a volunteer teacher in the Capistrano Valley Church of Religious Science Youth Church. Some of my biggest "AHA!" moments came while preparing for or teaching in Youth Church. Our beautiful beliefs are simply stated and demonstrated in hands-on activities that reach the children's hearts and minds, as well as the teachers.

Beautiful God qualities come to life in our Youth Church. Our oneness is experienced and explored through games and crafts, like the whole group getting all tangled up in a ball of string and realizing if even one person was not present the whole web would droop. I see and feel true joy as beach balls dance through the air and witness the Creative Intelligence as art projects come to life. And I always have the joy of experiencing abundance in Youth Church; an abundance of glitter, glue, laughter and energy.

Maybe after reading all this you want to volunteer but believe that your soul will miss hearing Dr. Heather on Sunday. Believe me when I say, the message you are meant to hear is available to you regardless of whether you are in Youth Church or the Sanctuary on Sunday. Many Sundays I have entered Youth Church struggling with a limited belief, but while I taught or listened to the message I discovered my answer. And, as an added bonus, I had the giggles, questions and stories of the children to lift my heart.

Volunteering in Youth Church is definitely a gift. A gift I am honored to receive every first Sunday of the month. Come join the fun, the power and the presence in Youth Church. You will discover more of yourself than you ever thought possible.
