Spiritual Practices

Dear Ones,

Our theme for the year is Friends on the Path: Building Spiritual Community. In January we went back to the basics of the Science of Mind. In February we discussed the spiritual practice of Prayer. Praying together is a powerful community builder. In March we will discuss the Spiritual Practice of Meditation. Then in April we will continue with the spiritual practices of Service.

Dr. Ernest Holmes, in Light, writes: "Very frequently I sit down all alone for two hours and listen to the silence and it speaks, and look into the darkness and it turns light — it is there and there is no question about it. God is warmth, Spirit is colorful, the Universe is filled with light. A voice speaks from everything — running brooks, stones and trees, animals and moon and stars, deserts and stillness. And you can listen until it speaks to you." This is the point of meditation — to be still so that the Universal Presence can speak to you. In order to have a full conversation with God, we need to learn to meditate as well as pray.

In April, we move into the spiritual practice of Selfless Service. This is the practice of loving selfless service. It is a practice of giving the gift of our time, attention and talents as a gift of love to the Beloved. Mother Teresa reminded us, "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love."

Love,
